We decided to travel by train in Italy.
Trains in Italy are cheaper and more comfortable than in Germany.
For example, one way high-speed train ticket from Rome to Florence costs 37 EUR for 2 persons.
We stayed in a small guest house Be Happy right in the city center.
Our host gave us the city map and drew a plan of what we can see in Florence in one day.
Main attraction in the city is Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower, better known as Duomo di Firenze.
It is the tallest building in the city and one of the biggest churches of Italy.
It is also the largest brick dome ever constructed in the world.
There are many art museums and galleries in the city, mostly concentrated around Piazza della Signoria.
We had only one day in Florence so we decided to skip museums and just walked around the square.
Florence stands on Arno river and there are several bridges across the river.
Most famous of them is Ponte Vecchio. It is the oldest bridge in Florence - it was built in 1345.
Many merchants used to sell their goods in shops on this bridge throughout the history.
Nowadays it's mostly jewellery and souvenirs shops.
French artist Clet Abraham lives in Florence.
He's famous for modifying road signs.
We've also seen some of his works in Barcelona.
Our hotel host advised us to try the best ice-cream in the city at Gelateria La Carraia.
For lunch we visited pasta-bar Tamero. Looks interesting from the inside, but we forgot to take pictures of our food :)
After the lunch we went to Boboli Gardens.
The gardens situated behind Pitti Palace, the main residence of Medici grand dukes of Tuscany at Florence.
There is an entry fee for the park and you will need a few hours to visit all of the gardens.
The weather started to change and it looked like it will rain, but we decided to visit it anyway.
We were also advised to visit Piazzale Michelangelo.
This square is located on the heel on the other side of the river and it has a beautiful view on cathedral.
By the time we got there the weather spoiled completely and it started to rain.
Our plan to meet the sunset there was abandoned, so we took a bus and went back to the hotel.
